![]() ![]() The one on your laptop/desktop mobo is probably already better. For a full-metal, RGB stand with charger from a top brand for just 60-70 bucks, there isnt much budget left for a quality DAC. Want to add speaker capability to your desktop Meet Rekkr, a tiny, Magni-sized amp thats dead-quiet, powerful enough for satisfying nearfield listening. PPS: the dac in the corsair rgb headphone stand is just a marketing gimmick. PS: I had to turn off some windows sound effect setting that completely fucked up quality so beware of that on first listen. From what I understand the Caldigit has an alright DAC (Cmedia 6533) inside. I bought 500 euro headphones, and those deserve a 300 euro amp stack. ATs dont have the bass that some other headphones have but definitely get the bass with the sub/pioneers. But it truly does add an extra dimension to the listening experience for someone like me with a slightly trained ear that loves quality things. Not better as in everyone will agree this is worth 300 euros (modi, magni, loki, shipping overseas and import fees) though. ![]() It makes laptop/corsair dac music sound plastic where the stack makes it sound alive. thats something everyone will definitely hear instantly and i didnt expect it to be this much better. Add Bifrost 2 or Modius for digital duties, and a Vidar or Aegir as a speaker amp, and Lyr+ is the heart of a full system, ready for headphones, speakers, and. That difference is something i could point out to my girlfriend and she would probably say "yeah i can hear it, but its only if i really try and not big enough to give up wireless".Įxpensive headphones in corsair dac vs expensive headphones in schiit stack however. The difference is bigger than when i switch my sony wh1000-xm3 headphones from bluetooth to cable. ![]() I havent specifically compared the dacs as one is usb to minijack and the other is usb to 2x rca, but i have compared corsair dac => headphones to schiit stack => headphones, and it is clearly better. Or it perhaps is the usb chain? Does this really affect sound quality this much? There's no audible noise when music is paused. I havent been able to reboot my laptop yet because i still had a lot of work open, but i was under the assumption that this was plug n play? The cables are all supplied by schiit, the jack plug is the gold plated screw-on that came with the headphones and havent been used before, the power strip looks good quality. usb signal chain to dac is fucked (at this stage isnt it just bits n bytes?) Signal chain is laptop => anker dock => 2x dell monitor usb passthrough => modi 3+ => PYST RCA cables => loki (Hi, knobs set to neutral) => PYST RCA cables => magni heresy => shure 1/8 to 1/4 plug => shure SRH1540 Power chain is loki/magni => schiit wall wart => power strip => wall I tried spotify, 320 kbps mp3 and flac files of metal, neuro drum n bass and bluesy rock. Compared to my mediocre Corsair ST100 RGB headphone stand with dac (i know, right) the stack makes my headphones sound like 10 dollar earbuds running a 128kbps mp3. What is worth the money, is good for my setup, are there any other purchases I should consider, What can the Magni/Modi stack drive and what can it not?Īs you can see I lack a lot of information, I understand I might receive conflicting information here as well but hopefully I can figure out what to buy.My first stack arrived a few days ago and i set it up today, but the sound quality is incredibly bad. I am personally looking for speakers that will give rich loud sound as my PC is my current Home Audio system. It is quite confusing and overwhelming the amount of options that are out there. Although I believe almost any speaker setup is better then what I currently have ( Logitech Z523 ), I have found a lot of contradictory advice on what to use as some speakers contain their own amps, are wireless, require different levels of Power to drive them. I did my own searching for a while but I am really not experienced with audio equipment as I am still learning. I am now interested in buying speakers for use with this stack and my PC. I originally purchased this Magni 3/Modi 3 stack to run some Sennheiser 650s. ![]()
