![]() ![]() The room was larger than expected for a historic property. The staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The location is beautiful in a quiet residential area and within walking distance of everything you could want to see and do. I stayed 3 nights at the Eliza Thopson House as part of a mother-daughter trip to Savannah. We will definitely stay here again when we visit Savannah. Wine and delicious hors d'oeuvres were served each afternoon in the parlor at 5:30 and it was a great time to visit with other guests. The social hour each afternoon was memorable. The staff was very attentive to our needs and was very courteous. ![]() He even had the time to visit with guests each morning while breakfast was being served. The breakfast that was prepared each morning by Chef Shane was delicious. ![]() We stayed in one of the garden rooms, and it was very nice. The House is a beautiful representation of the 1800's homes in the area. In fact, we were there 4 nights and walked to every place we wanted to see, including River Street. It is within walking distance to many, many historic sites and restaurants. It is located on Jones Street, which is one of the most beautiful streets in the U.S. More Show lessĮliza Thompson House is the perfect place to stay in Savannah. Although there are not individual mini-fridges in the rooms, thoughtfully there is a shared fridge on the main floor, where one can store items. Rooms that face the courtyard have an outside corridor, so there's a loss of privacy if the heavy drapes are kept open. The windows don't open, the a/c was either very loud (in one room) or ineffective (in the other), and not every room has a ceiling fan. The rooms have an air of luxury, but are somewhat out of date with wall to wall carpeting, small bathrooms with iffy/harsh lighting, and upholstered bed pillows that end up on the floor, and then back on the bed. It's easy and pleasant to have breakfast in the courtyard (which also has a heated section), but the breakfast items were hit and miss: very good quiches, dry waffles, excellent country gravy, unripened strawberries in the fruit salad. There's 24 hour tea, coffee, water and cola in the parlor. For example, the chicken skewers were dry, the chocolate cake was brown there wasn't much chocolate flavor. It's fun to have the afternoon snacks, and the evening port (Sandeman) and dessert in the parlor, but the quality of the snacks and dessert aren't as good as one would hope. The overall experience is excellent, but some of the parts are only good to very good. The staff are superbly pleasant and helpful, and are the main reason we would stay again. The location is terrific- in the atmospheric historic district. We had an excellent stay at the ET Inn, but not quite as glowing as some of the other reviews.
